James O’Shea, Associate Professor in Physics, University of Nottingham, UK.

Assoc. Prof. O’Shea is uses electron spectroscopy techniques to explore the chemical, electronic and charge transfer characteristics of complex molecules and nanoparticles on surfaces. Together with in-situ electrospray deposition, the techniques of near ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (NAP-XPS) and NanoESCA in the laboratory, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy, resonant photoemission, and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering at the synchrotron (MAX-IV, Diamond Light Source and SOLEIL), help reveal how light and molecules interact with surfaces designed to harvest sunlight for photovoltaics, solar water splitting and hydrogen storage.
