Karin Tran-Lundmark is a physician scientist and Associate Professor at Skåne University Hospital and Lund University. Her clinical focus as a pediatric cardiologist is pulmonary hypertension and advanced heart failure/transplantation. She spends 50% of her time in the clinic and 50% at BMC doing experimental research. The main research focus is vascular remodeling in pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the lung) and the role of the extracellular matrix in pulmonary vascular disease. Over the last few years Dr Tran-Lundmark and her group have started to use synchrotron-based phase contrast micro-CT for visualization of the vascular micro-anatomy in severe pulmonary hypertension. The imaging is combined with other methods like immunohistochemistry and RNAscope (in situ hybridization) to determine molecular mechanisms in search for potential therapeutic targets.
